Earn extra pocket money, or building a career out of designing Counter-Strike skins.

Are you an avid gamer? Do you have a STEAM account? What are Counter-Strike skins or gaming skins? Do you have extra skins in your gaming inventory that you can sell to earn extra cash?  Before we have a look at how you can sell your extra skins, let’s have a look at what gaming skins are.

STEAM, Gaming and Counter-Strike skins

STEAM is the ultimate gaming platform. They have thousands of games across all genres from Action to Indie. In order to access all of these games, you need to create and account on their online platform; thereby, allowing you to play games, meet new people, join gaming communities, create new content in the Steam workshop, and trade digital items amongst your online friends.

According to Wikipedia, “Counter-Strike (officially abbreviated as CS) is a series of multiplayer first-person shooter video games, in which teams of terrorists and counter-terrorists battle to…perpetrate an act of terror (bombing, hostage-taking) and prevent it (bomb defusal, hostage rescue).

According to, a skin is a “graphic or audio file used to change the appearance of the user interface to a program or for a game character….When using a skin, the appearance of the user interface changes, but not the functions available with the program.” In other words, a gaming skin is an interface or an attachment that gets added on to an element of the game, in order to change its characteristics. For example, if you are playing the game Counter-Strike, you can skin your weapons so that have different patterns,  colours, and designs.

CS:GO: earning and designing skins

You are afforded unique advantages as a CS: GO, player; ergo, the more you play Counter-Strike, the more gaming skins and other digital items you will earn. The added benefit for the game designer and the hard-core enthusiast is that it is also possible to design your own skins in the STEAM workshop.

Once you have extra skins in your inventory and you need cash, you can sell them on the STEAM platform or the website. The challenge with selling digital items on the STEAM platform is that you are not able to convert the virtual money earned from the sale into hard cash. On the other hand, the good news is that the website allows you to convert your digital cash into real cash.

Designing CS skins as a career is not to be sneezed at as it can provide a good income opportunity for you should you be passionate about the game and enjoy designing skins. Should you wish to start designing your own skins, there are several tools and design apps available for you to use. It’s important to evaluate these tools before purchasing them; therefore,  I believe that it’s a good idea to sign up for free trials before you purchase subscriptions to these tools.
